  • Save on gas and parking, just rent a bike at the friendly Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop. Mountain bikes are also available for rent from Acadia Bike.

Bar Harbour and its surroundings offer gorgeous trails for biking, as well as unique water activities. Go sea kayaking, you might also spot harbor seals and porpoises. More serious fishing enthusiasts may take a trip to catch mackerel, cod, redfish or even a mako shark.

  • Adventurous hikers will appreciate a day trip to the uncrowded Schoodic Peninsula, a great place to admire the natural beauty of the Maine coast.
  • Take a kayak tour by Coastal Kayaking Tours, that operates from mid-May to mid-October.
  • Embark in a tour on the Lulu Lobster Boat to learn about the art and science of  lobstering.
  • Acadia Deep Sea Fishing Tours will take you on a memorable trip with a spectacular scenery. You can try to catch lobster, too!
  • When Bar Harbor locals want to party, they go to Carmen Verandah, the one and only nightclub in town.

Grab a fresh, cold beer while having delicious fish sandwiches at the Thirsty Whale, a tavern where families are welcome, open the year round. Needless to say, Maine is famous for its lobster, and Bar Harbor is home to several of the best places in New England to enjoy it.

  • For a "straight-from-the-sea-to-your-plate" experience, Thurston's is the place to go. Open from Memorial Day weekend to mid October, you'll see the lobster boats returning with the absolute freshest catch of the day.
  • Seasonal Abel's Lobster Pound is a family restaurant located on a fjord with breathtaking views of the harbor serving clam chowder, crab cakes, steamed oysters, and delicious lobster stew. Bon appetit!
