Freeport is the capital of Grand Bahama Island, one of the most northern islands in the Bahamas, and also home to Lucaya. Recognized for its gorgeous beaches and exciting water sports – including tremendous fishing – Freeport is also known for exciting nightlife, gambling and shopping. You won't be bored in Freeport.

Grand Bahama Island guided tours are a great way to make the most of your time here; you can relax and enjoy your day, knowing you’re not missing a thing. There are cultural, eco, shopping and residential tours – even a brewery tour!

  • Rent a cruiser bike at CocoNutz Cruisers and pedal your way around town, or mount up at Pinetree Stables for horseback riding on the beach.
  • Take an eco tour with Grand Bahama Nature Tours, or sit back and relax on a Grand Bahama Taxi or Bus tour.

There’s almost too much to do in Freeport and on Grand Bahama Island. Swim with dolphins, dance by bonfire light on the beach, snorkel among beautiful reef fish, sunbathe, play golf, have a beach party, fly fish on the flats … this is only a partial list, so be ready to make some fun decisions!

  • Visit Gold Rock Creek Beach for a lush and secluded beach experience inside Lucayan National Park, or mingle with other visitors at one of the resort beaches.
  • Check out Lil B Fishing or Grand Bahama Scuba for some exciting time on or in the water. If fairways are your thing, Lucayan and Reef Golf Courses are the places to hit.

Port Lucaya Marketplace offers exciting shopping, in addition to the stores downtown. Leather, fine linens, jewelry, perfumes, cameras…it’s all duty-free, so your deals are extra-sweet! If authentic Bahamian arts and crafts are what you seek, head to the International Bazaar.

  • For woven items, try out Goombay Park Straw Market or The Bahamas’ Arts and Straw Market.
  • Looking for a really nice hostess gift? Duck into Leo’s Art Gallery or Paradise Jewels.

The Grand Bahama Island specialty is roast conch – don’t leave Freeport without trying it. You’ll find a big variety of other cafes and restaurants throughout town and the resorts, from casually chic locavore cafes to fine dining with an international flair.

  • For local fare, try Da Conch Man, Banana Bay, Rum Runners or Bernie’s Tiki Hut.
  • International flavors can be found at La Parilla, Zorba’s and Madkap Restaurant and Bar.
