St. Therese of Lisieux (1873–97) was a Carmelite nun whose service to her Roman Catholic order, although outwardly unremarkable, was later recognized for its exemplary spiritual accomplishments.
Generations of Catholics have admired this young saint, called her the "Little Flower", and found in her short life more inspiration for their own lives than in volumes by theologians. Yet Therese died when she was 24, after having lived as cloistered Carmelite for less than ten years.
Lisieux may be known throughout the world today thanks to Sainte-Thérèse, but it has origins dating much further back. It is one of the oldest towns in Normandy!
